One-bag travel isn’t about deprivation — it’s about freedom. Whether you’re hopping between cities or living on the road, minimalist packing helps you move light, fast, and stress-free. Here’s what to bring and how to think like a minimalist traveler.
The Bag
Choose a carry-on sized backpack (35–45L). Look for:
- Front-loading (clamshell) access
- Laptop sleeve
- Hidden pocket for valuables Top picks: Aer Travel Pack 3, Nomatic Navigator, Peak Design Travel Pack.
Clothing Rule: 3×3
- 3 shirts (quick-dry or merino)
- 3 pairs of underwear
- 3 pairs of socks
- 2 bottoms (shorts + pants or skirt)
- 1 jacket/layer
- 1 pair of shoes (plus flip-flops if needed)
Stick to neutral colors so everything matches. Roll clothes or use packing cubes.
Toiletries
- Toothbrush, solid toothpaste or tabs
- Solid shampoo/soap bar
- Tiny deodorant, sunscreen, razor
- Microfiber towel
- Nail clippers, tweezers (optional)
Tech
- Smartphone
- Compact charger + universal adapter
- Lightweight laptop/tablet (if needed)
- Headphones
Misc
- Reusable water bottle
- Travel documents
- Packing cube for dirty laundry
Mindset matters: Ask yourself — “Will I use this at least twice a week?” If not, leave it. You’ll be amazed how little you truly need — and how good it feels to carry it all on your back.
